Community
Outreach
The Cumberland County Mental Health Center’s Community Outreach services are
systematic ways to provide services to residents, schools, local human service
agencies, professionals, civic organizations, etc.
Services include community consultations, prevention activities,
educational presentations, seminars, public awareness information, problem
identification, referrals and services to reach the developmentally disabled
populations.
Some
of the Outreach Services offered are listed below:
Community Consultations
The goals of the Cumberland County Mental Health Center are
to prevent substance abuse/ mental and emotional disorders, provide early
identification and treatment of those problems when they occur, and minimize
their debilitating effects. Prevention services helps to achieve these goals
through substance abuse/mental health consultations and education for service
providers, community agencies and the public. Consultation helps to prevent
and control substance abuse/mental and emotional disorders in the community
and to strengthen the skills and understanding of service providers.
Prevention Activities
Prevention
Services seek to prevent the occurrence of substance abuse and mental illness.
Primary prevention consists of those activities undertaken to reduce the
incidence of new cases of mental health and substance abuse problems in the
community. Our services are specifically designed in accordance with the
prevention strategies mandated by the state of North Carolina. They are:
- Information Dissemination
- Prevention Education
- Alternative Activities
- Problem Identification and Referral
- Community Capacity Development
- Promotion of Public Policy

Bureau Information
The Cumberland County Mental Health Center is a community
service organization. Our staff is eager to share knowledge and expertise with
area organizations, schools, churches, and the news media.
Public Awareness Information
The Public Awareness program makes use of various modes of
communication such as radio, television, pamphlets, newspaper articles and
public awareness campaigns.
