Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services for Children and Adults

The Mental Health Center provides specialized mental health services for the Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Hard of Hearing or Late-Deafened individuals living in Cumberland County. This program was designed to provide accessible mental health services for these populations. The Center currently has two Regional Coordinators for Deaf Services; one specifically for Children and Adolescents and one for adults. Both therapists are fluent in American Sign Language and utilize the client's preferred mode of communication during therapy sessions. In addition, the Regional Coordinators serve as consultants and trainers for Cumberland County, Sandhills and Southeastern Regional Mental Health Area Programs, Department of Social Services and other county agencies. In addition, the Regional Coordinators serve as liaisons with regional psychiatric hospitals when Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Hard of Hearing or Late-Deafened individuals are involved.
