One key to reform is the active participation of members of
communities - the individuals and family members affected by
mental illness, developmental disabilities and/or substance abuse who can best
represent the perspective and needs.
Two major efforts aimed at increasing consumer and family
involvement were called for in the reform plan. |
One was the creation
of consumer and family advisory committees (CFACs) for each local
program in North Carolina. The other called for the Secretary of the
Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to appoint a state
consumer and family advisory committee (SCFAC) to work directly with
system leadership to implement reform.
The
Cumberland County CFAC meets the second and fourth Thursday of each
month at the Child and Family Services Building at 711 Executive
Place to discuss and address mental health, substance abuse and
developmental disability issues in Cumberland County. If you would
