The Adult Services Program provides quality mental health care to individuals eighteen (18) years of age and older who are experiencing severe and persistent mental illness and/or emotional instability due to one or more impediments; such as: schizophrenic disorders, depression, and social and family relationship difficulties. An individual therapist works with each client requiring acute care. An individual Case Manager works with each client requiring long-term care. Clients are provided a continuum of care, which includes outpatient treatment, inpatient treatment, residential acute treatment, group home domiciliary care, deaf services, limited housing support, psychosocial rehabilitation, and occupational development.

The Psychosocial Rehabilitation programs works jointly with clients who are dually diagnosed with mental illness and mental retardation. Individuals diagnosed with a severe and persistent mental illness are also served through this program. Psychosocial Rehabilitation services are provided at the Sunflower Center location. Hours of operation for these programs are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for clients.

Regional Deaf Coordinator – Adult

One Master’s level counselor provides assessment, evaluation and treatment to adult clients who are deaf or hard of hearing. This position is housed at Cumberland County Mental Health Center, but also provides services to clients in an eleven-county area.

Emergency care is also provided. The Center is the single portal of entry to state-supported services outside Cumberland County.

Adult Services staff provide services to the community through their involvement with consultation to rape victims, schools, colleges, church groups, local industry and other public agencies.

Hours of Operation: Normal Operating Hours are Monday through Friday 7:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with extended hours until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays (By appointment only).

Adult Sex Offender Program

The Adult Sex Offenders Program provides services designated to eliminate and/or appropriately modify behavior of individuals perpetrating rapes and molestation through the effective treatment and management of identified sex offenders. A staff of a masters-level psychologist and counselors provide screening, psychological testing, intakes and group counseling for court-referred sex offenders. The categories currently being treated at Cumberland County Mental Health Center are pedophilia, transvestism and exhibitionism.
